The Someone Like You singer got her hands on more awards yesterday as she attended the prestigious Ivor Novello ceremony at Grosvenor Hotel in London. She won two of the four awards she was nominated for – the most notable being Songwriter of the Year.

Despite her sophomore album, 21, being released 15 months ago now, sales are still strong. In the US in particular, she passed the 9 million mark, while in Britain it’s become the fifth bestselling album, surpassing Michael Jackson’s Thriller; not to mention it’s the biggest selling album of the 21^st century.

The songstress also recently entered Forbes Celebrity 100 List. She was placed in at No.24, being beaten by the likes of Tom Cruise, Lady Gaga and top of the list Jennifer Lopez (well she is an American Idol judge). Only two other Brits were higher placed than her – Simon Cowell and Elton John. The list is calculated by judging celebs in terms of money, press and social power. Not bad when you consider she’s never in any scandals!

Other Adele news is that Barbara Streisand is planning a duet with her. Still can’t get my head around this but it’s something to look out for, I think at least anyway. She’s not the only one eyeing up Adele though. This year’s British Eurovision representative ol’ Engelbert Humperdinck would like to collaborate with her, saying “As wild and extravagant as she is, she’s got the talent to pull anything off”. Although even she wouldn’t be able to save our entry in Azerbaijan.

The old gals of The View put President Obama on the spot yesterday, testing his  knowledge of all the recent pop culture ‘news’.

As he proved with his smooth rendition of Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’, Obama can certainly pull off being cool better than most politicians (for example, this guy. And this guy.). But there’s something about watching him or any politician have to prove their coolness to the masses that I find so unsettling.

Do we really want our elected leaders schmoozing with Whoopi Goldberg? Wouldn’t we rather rest assured in the knowledge that they’re tucked away in some government office reading bills, scrutinizing the federal budget or having exhaustive translated conversations with various foreign leaders?

Haha, you got me! I was totally just playing devil’s advocate there. Of course I approve of making Obama answer questions about the Kardashians. That’s just dern good television!

It’s a bit of a turbulent time for the Grease star, disco king and scientologist with the pilot’s licence, as he’s being accused of highly inappropriate sexual conduct towards a couple of male masseuses and a cruise ship room service guy.

The story first broke with the revelation that Travolta was being sued by an unnamed male masseuse after allegedly groping the startled man during a $200-per-hour massage in Los Angeles, proceeding to masturbate and propositioning the guy with the line ‘Come on dude, I’ll jerk you off’. However the first case was dropped by the accuser’s lawyer Okorie Okorocha after it emerged that Travolta was actually in New York at the time of the alleged incident.

Since then Mr Okorocha has taken on another two clients who claim to have suffered similarly disturbing advances at Travolta’s hands. One a New York Masseuse who claims Travolta tried to get the man to touch his privates during a massage, the other a cruise ship worker who claims to have been hugged by a naked Travolta and offered money in return for sexual favours.

After reading up on the scandals, I’ve come to the conclusion that I should be on Travolta’s legal team. Heck, I’ve already come up with the perfect defence. There’s even a precedent for it in Travolta’s history, but I’m not sure if I should share it with you all; letting the cat out of the bag might jeopardise my chances of getting on the team.

What-the-hay I’ve never been good at keeping things to myself, so here is the prefect defence: It was actually Nicholas Cage that committed the dastardly deeds… while wearing John Travolta’s face. In the ’90s movie Face Off Travolta and Cage swapped faces and took over each other’s identities. If they’ve done it before, surely it could have happened again.

While I must admit that Travolta’s dead-eyed reptilian grin does freak me the hell out, I would be more scared to be left alone in a room with Nicholas Cage. They say good acting comes from using real emotion and character traits well. In Cage’s movies he always plays two things perfectly: manic energy and obsessive desperation, a truly terrifying combination.

Anyway, the current strategy of Travolta’s lawyer Marty Singer seems to be rather straightforward; he says the accusers are just making stuff up. Regardless of the defence things could be about to get even more troubling for Travolta as Okorocha claims to have heard from over 100 men who are looking to sue the star for similar conduct.

It looks like Travolta’s penchant for getting greased up and rubbed down could end up costing him a whole lot of cash.

This strange affliction lasted from 1997 – 2001 with a little dip in 1999. What was causing this strange behaviour in young British males was a mystery until some clever researcher noticed a correlation between the diseases peaks and troughs, and a Channel Four breakfast television show called The Big Breakfast, more pertinently the work rota of their young Essex girl presenter Denise Van Outen.

Dubai beaches are becoming a favourite destination for UK celebs, only last week Made in Chelsea stars were jetting off on flights to Dubai, staying at the Palm Atlantis where Spencer Mathews proved he’s a bit of a rat.

Johnny Depp has issued a challenge to Robert Pattinson in The Sun by claiming his latest character Barnabas Collins is more manly than Edward Cullen. He says:

Johnny said: “There is room for two big vampires at the minute in the cinema but I’m the alpha vampire.

“I’m the more manly one.”

Dark Shadows, Depp’s ninth collaboration with Tim Burton, sees him play Barnabas Collins, set free after 200 years of imprisonment. He returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendant are in need of his protection.

Surely Twi-hard fans will have something to say about this, but did that lovable rogue Depp have his tongue planted firmly in his cheek when he threw down the gauntlet?

Bean was arrested two days ago over allegations that he had made abusive phone calls and texts to his fourth ex-wife Georgina Sutcliffe, who is currently performing in London in a production of The Mouse Trap. Not to reduce the personal issues of a two people to the gut-reactions of the mass consumers of seedy celebrity gossip, but it might be high time to form a more complicated opinion of the man who launched the Stupid Ned Stark meme. Here’s how it went down, according to People:

Game of Thrones star Sean Bean was arrested Wednesday and questioned on suspicion of sending abusive text messages and making harassing phone calls to his ex-wife Georgina Sutcliffe.

A 53-year-old man attended a central London police station by appointment yesterday, where he was arrested on suspicion of harassment and bailed until a later date,” a Scotland Yard spokesman tells PEOPLE. According to police, the man was questioned but not charged.

The Daily Mirror identified the man as Bean, 53, and posted a photo of him arriving at the police station.
Bean, who played Eddard Stark on HBO’s Game of Thrones, married the actress Sutcliffe – his fourth wife – in 2008. They were divorced in 2010.

Bean was also arrested for assaulting Sutcliffe in 2008, a few months after the wedding. Maybe it’s just from working here and being somewhat obliged to follow these stories more intently than would otherwise be the case, but it seems like a precious few actors aren’t scumbags. I guess a silver lining is that this kind of thing isn’t as hushed up as it might once have been, and at least we’re given the choice of making a grown up decision on whether to support the work of skeezy individuals.

Thank god for Ewan McGregor and James McAvoy.
