If you’re anything like me, you have been inspired by the all of the amazing and talented athletes on our screens recently. Heck, if Mo Farah can run 10k in just over half an hour, the very least I can do is go out for a wee jog a couple of times a week.
But here’s the thing – I like to look good when I’m doing it. There is no way I am venturing outside in an oversized t shirt and old joggers. No sir.
Thank goodness then, for H&M’s sportswear range. It looks good, does the job and isn’t too harsh on the ol’ pocket either! I love the gorgeous hot pink stuff they have in this season, like the technical vest I have featured in this Polyvore set:
But a simple sports vest does not a good workout kit make – you have to think carefully about what you wear from head to toe.
We love these yoga pants from Sweaty Betty – far too often I see skintight leggings in shops but I just don’t have the confidence to pull them off. These pants are flattering and comfy – and if you’re just going out for a gentle jog a couple of times a week, they’re all you really need. Leave the spandex look for the athletes!
However, somewhere where you cannot skimp is your footwear. They are the foundation of your body when you are working out, and if you get these wrong then you could land yourself with a painful injury. But never fear! Picking a good pair of trainers isn’t that hard. Believe it or not, you don’t need to have your gait analysed or your arches measured (unless you have a pre-identified medical condition), just try on a a couple of pairs and pick the ones that feel supportive and comfortable. I have a pair of Pumas that have served me quite well – and I’m pretty loyal to that brand now.
Finally, kit yourself out with the right tech! I love my iPod Nano, as it is lightweight and clips easily to my clothes. It also has the nifty Nike + app, which can give you useful stats on your run.
So that’s it. If you’ve got the kit and you look good, there’s no excuse to get out there! Before you know it, you’ll have Jessica Ennis’ rocking abs in no time!
What fitness kit can you not live without? Tell us in the comments section below, we’d love to hear from you!
