Karl Lagerfeld says things. They’re usually quite mean, and that’s so entertaining. He’s like every bitchy internet commentator rolled into one. It seems even Royal connections can’t save you from a lashing from the Lagerfeld tongue as while praising Kate Middleton, he was rather less generous about her sister Pippa.
According to Vogue, the fashion designer made the following statement.
“Kate Middleton has a nice silhouette. I like that kind of woman, I like romantic beauties. On the other hand, her sister struggles. I don’t like the sister’s face. She should only show her back.”
Harsh much, Karl! Of course Pippa’s “back” received plenty of attention following the Royal wedding making her a household name in the process. Still it seems unfair to be mean about someone’s face. Why can’t everyone get along and enjoy the diversity of human appearances? Oh wait this is the fashion world – its very foundations are shallow lies and sniping.
This is not Lagerfeld’s first foray into the world of celebrity sniping- it’s pretty much his calling card. However, last year he actually issued an apology after calling Adele “too fat”.
But perhaps this world needs a hero, someone to speak their mind and tell people they don’t conform to Karl’s standards. And hopefully to save him from any more distress, Pippa will always enter rooms backwards and face the wall from now on. It’s the only nice thing to do.
