Okay, so unless you’ve had your head rammed in the digital sand over the past week, chances are you’ve heard of Overly Attached Girlfriend. This Justin Bieber “fan” responded to a competition set by the Biebmeister himself, challenging girls sing their own version of the poplet’s latest offering “Boyfriend”. This is what she came up with:
Okay, okay, so we all laughed and cringed a little when we saw this creepy Justin Bieber fan sing this odd rendition… she even became her very own meme and soon became the laughingstock of the internet.
But over the weekend, something weird happened. I was going around, doing my usual weekendy thing… when I heard myself utter the words ”If I were girlfriend… I’ll never let you leave…” under my breath. Yup, that’s right. I was SINGING IT TO MYSELF.
And with that, the ditty was stuck in my head like an old piece of gum for the rest of the weekend. Damn that girl and her creepy smile.
So, knowing that the song was a cover of an original, I decided to check out Bieber’s version.
… er. Is it just me, or is Overly Attached Girlfriend’s version BETTER? Okay, okay, technically she doesn’t quite hit the notes, but by jove, she sings with feeling. Not to mention, the lyrics are a lot more memorable and much better than Bieber’s frankly bland mumblings.
Bieber’s version… I dunno. I guess I’m just not convinced.
Am I going crazy here? Have I been hypnotised by the girl’s creepy but oddly attractive smile?
