So the Superbowl was at the weekend. While us Brits don’t normally make a huge deal about it, I’m a huge American Football fan and love the annual event of ‘the greatest show on Earth’.
The highlight for me has to be the half time show, which this year featured the timeless star Madonna. I’m not a huge fan of her music, but she can’t have got this far without being a half-decent performer so I was interested with what she had to offer.
During the interviews running up to the event, the star had made a point of letting everyone know how nervous she was, but she needn’t have bothered: the performance was pretty much flawless. (Although when you through $51 million at pretty much anything, it will be generally be flawless).
In fact, it would have been pretty much Madonna’s night if it hadn’t been for that michevious scamp MIA, who decided to toss the finger to the crowd.
Uproar inevitably ensued, with the NFL and NBC throwing a press release based mud-slinging match to determine whose fault it was (in a nutshell – NFL: “NBC’s delay system failed”, NBC: “But NBC hired the talent!”). But, in my opinion, it was an honest mistake. Call it a middle finger malfunction, if you will.
So here’s the video. If you’re of a nervous disposition or have an aversion to middle fingers, I’d steer clear of the eight minute mark if I were you:
