Last night saw the cream of British Television gather together at the O2 Arena to celebrate the past year with awards and glamorous frocks. There are fourteen different categories voted for by the public and the whole show is held together by seasoned ringmaster Dermot O’Leary.
This year turned out to be Coronation Street‘s year walking away with the coveted serial drama award ahead of Eastenders, Hollyoaks and Emmerdale. On collection of the award Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Webster dedicated it to Betty Driver, who passed away last October after playing Betty Williams for 42 years. So the first blow was landed by Corrie against the usual all conquering Eastenders. There was a second win for Corrie when Katherine Kelly was awarded with the Serial Drama Performance for her role as Becky. Eastenders did strike back, however, by winning the newcomer award that was won by Jacqueline Jossa.
As you can see, Doctor Who had a cracking night, taking home two awards for Best Drama Performance Male and Female for Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. There were a few surprises on the night with Alan Carr’s Chatty Man taking the award for best chat show ahead of Graham Norton, Jonathan Ross and Loose Women. Keith Lemon took the award for best panel quiz show with Celebrity Juice beating QI, Mock The Week and Have I Got News For You to the big prize.
And what of TV titans Ant and Dec? They have come a long way from the Grove (PJ! ME EYES!) and have landed themselves in the record books by walking away with Best Entertainment Presenter for the 11th(!) year in a row. The Byker boys have left their mark on British TV and it looks like nothing can stop them.
There were a couple of special awards given to Jonathan Ross for recognition of 25 years of work in the industry and to Garry Barlow for his outstanding contribution to TV for his stint in the X Factor. Was it really that outstanding?
Check out the video below for the stars arriving on the red carpet in some of the most glamorous frocks you have ever seen.
