2012: Year of the Divorce?

Maybe the Mayans were onto something with this whole 2012 business. At least when it comes to completely random celebrity breakups.

In an announcement no one was expecting, Victoria’s Secret Angel Heidi Klum and the he-probably-soundtracked-your-90s-highschool-prom singer Seal are officially separating after 7 years of marriage. Which means Hallowe’en is officially never going to be the same again.

The couple are either totally divorcing or just separating and working through some issues, according to who you talk to. Heidi and Seal said in a joint statement on Sunday:

While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate. We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart.

However, the plot’s only been thickening since last weekend when TMZ broke the story, with news leaked today about the reasoning behind the divorce:

Heidi’s decision to divorce Seal has nothing to do with a third person. There is NO issue of infidelity. But Seal’s inability to control his anger has become too much for Heidi to take, in no small part because it’s affecting their [four] children.

Guess even writing the greatest hits of adult contemporary soft rock doesn’t excuse you from serious issues lurking beneath the surface. Who would have known that the Kissed by a Rose guy had temper problems? Although looking at firsthand reports showing up from behind the scenes, it looks like Seal’s anger issues have been a problem in the relationship for a while despite the public face the couple kept up.

OK, so we’ve got Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s breakup going off the hook and Kobe Bryant and his wife finally reaching a settlement. Avril Lavigne and Brody Jenner are rumoured to be splitting some point in the near future. Plus Kenny G is definitely splitting from his wife of 20 years (he was married? who knew?). We have to ask: who’s next? Quick, hide Brangelina!
