Electric Peacock Festival 2011 – Sri Lanka

Music

Last year saw the very first independent international music festival in Sri Lanka. Bad weather put a dampener on proceedings, but this year’s Electric Peacock Festival had no such problems and was a fantastic success for a country that wishes to show the world how great it has become now that the years of civil war are behind them.

Here’s the trailer for a taster of what it was like:

It was held on the 16th of December at Colombo’s newly restored Lighthouse. The Sir Lankan Navy even helped out the organisers to transform the lighthouse into a fantastic festival venue.

The international line-up included Grammy Award winning Felix B of Basement Jaxx and legendary British producer Chicane, a.k.a Nicholas Bracegirdle, along with BBC Radio 1 DJ Nihal. Everyone there seemed to agree it was fantastic night check out my storify to see more.

The Electric Peacock Team created an extraordinary night with a stunning fireworks display, funky stilt walkers, costume areas, fire dancers and even an adult bouncy castle. The festival wasn’t only about the music, with artists asked to contribute to exhibitions and attendees encouraged to dress up for the event. I did a polyvore giving a taste of the attendees attire:
