The Duchess of Cambridge’s fashion sense may have come under some scrutiny since her wedding to Prince William earlier this year, having been criticised by many a celebrity for wearing too much eyeliner (Dame Vivienne Westwood), recycling her wardrobe (Kelly Osbourne) and deemed boring by fashion industry experts. But this hasn’t stopped Kate being chosen as the best dressed woman in Britain today- no surprise since she’s inspired people all over the internet in replicating her look (we’ve put together our own on Tumblr here).

Awarded the top spot in Harper’s Bazaar’s 20 most stylish list, the Duchess of Cambridge beat the likes of current style icons Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and Emma Watson to the coveted title.  Praised for boosting the British fashion industry by regularly wearing the work of many high-end British designers, including Erdem, Amanda Wakeley and Alice Temperley, Kate was named winner in an unusually unanimous decision by the judging panel.

Editor of the magazine Lucy Yeomans explained the decision, saying:

Catherine’s incredible style evolution has gripped us all. She gave us the year’s – if not the century’s – most thrilling fashion moment at the royal wedding, and is shaping up as an amazing ambassador for British designers and the high street.

I don’t think she deserves the title. Yes her wedding dress with revolutionary in terms of royal wedding history but other than that I don’t think she’s got anything else to go on. She’s far too conservative and she’s dressed by a stylist a lot too – shouldn’t a style icon have their own personal flair without the help of someone else? This kind of infuriates me about as much as it did when Emma Watson got named a style icon… what?!
