It’s that time of year again when the best music artists take to the red carpet and the brightest stars are rewarded for all their hard work. The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) have announced their nominees with the UK’s Adele picking up 7 nominations!

There will also be a lot of pressure on Katy Perry who leads the way with nine nominations! These included video of the year for Firework, best pop video and best special effects.

Other awards up for grabs are; best rock video, best hip-hop video, best new artist, best female video, best male video, best collaboration, best art direction, best choreography, best cinematography, best direction, and best editing.

After a record breaking 13 nominations last year, Lady Gaga has embarrassingly only received 3 this year- sorry Gaga!

The most prestigious award of the night is arguably the video of the year category, which will see Adele, Beastie Boys, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry and Tyler, The Creator battle it out for the prize. Watch their nominated videos below to help make your decision:

Personally I think Beyoncé’s “Run the world (girls) video should be in the video of the year category, however, it does appear in the best female video and best choreography categories.

The show will air live from Los Angeles on August 28th. Last year’s MTV Music Award show had many highlights, including Florence & the Machine’s performance of Dog Days Are Over”, Taylor Swift’s performance of “Innocent” and who could forget Lady Gaga’s tasty meat dress!
